Bharananganam

Bharananganam  is an important Christian pilgrimage center located 5 kms east of Palai on the Kottayam - Erattupetta Road, the town of Bharananganam.

It is associated with Sister Alphonsa, the blessed saint of the Catholics.By the presence of mortal remains of Saint Alphonsa, the place got such importance.She lived from 1916 AD to 1946 AD. The mortal remains of the saint is preserved in a chapel next to the St. Mary's Church.

The important days of this pilgrimage centre are:

19th  of August - The Birthday of Saint Alphonsa.
28th  of July - The death anniversary.

8th of  February - The day which Sister Alphonsa was beatified.
12th  of October - She was canonised .

Feast

28th  of July - Saint Alphonsa’s Feast is celebrated on the death anniversary of the saint with much solemnity.
